The condition of the lakes. Immigrants and swimming skills. The Finnish World Rally Championship. Thursday’s weather.

Condition of lakes

Initially, the topic is the condition of the lakes.

One in five lakes in Finland is in poor condition.

There are problems especially in the lakes of Southern and Western Finland.

The lakes are burdened by agriculture and forestry. For example, nitrogen and phosphorus run off from fields into the lakes. They disrupt the lake’s balance. The lake can become eutrophic, meaning the number of plants increases and the water becomes cloudy.

Every fifth lake is in poor health.

Finnish lakes are also darker than before. Light cannot penetrate deep and species may disappear from the lakes.

Immigrants and swimming skills

Then the topic is immigrants’ swimming skills.

Immigrants can learn to swim at a swimming school.

Cities and municipalities organize swimming schools on the beach in the summer.

Here, a family who moved to Finland from India is at a swimming school in Imatra. The cold weather doesn’t bother them. They want to learn to swim and are practicing hard.

The mother of the family Anjali Devi Mini Gopakumar says that she can now swim better than before.

Immigrants can practice swimming skills at a swimming school.

Many immigrants cannot swim. Last summer, several children from immigrant families were in danger at the beach and in the swimming pool.

Finnish World Rally Championship

Finally, the topic is rally racing.

The World Rally Championship will be held in Central Finland for the rest of the week.

The rally competition will be held in and around Jyväskylä. Some of the rally’s special stages will be held in the center of Jyväskylä.

Due to the rally, traffic may be congested and detours may be required. A large crowd is expected at the venue.

The Finnish World Rally Championship will be held from Thursday to Sunday in Central Finland.

One of the early favorites for the rally is Finnish Sami Pajari. The 24-year-old Pajari won the Estonian World Rally Championship in mid-July.

Thursday’s weather

Still a weather forecast.

On Thursday, the weather will be sunny almost throughout the country, meaning there will be no rain.

The day is also sunny.

Temperatures will rise to sweltering temperatures in some areas.
