Balcony inspections
First, about safety.
There can be many dangerous glass balconies in Finland.
Managing Director Ari Laitinen of Parvekekorjaamo says that balconies need to be inspected. This concerns balconies with glass railings and those built before 2023.
The biggest risk of an accident is the support piece at the bottom edge that supports the glass. When the support piece weakens, the glass can fall if you lean on it.
There can be many dangerous glass balconies in Finland.
At worst, the fault could have been in 10 balconies in a building with about 50 apartments.
Aalto on the World Heritage List
Then about Finnish architecture.
Alvar Aalto’s architecture has been accepted into the UNESCO World Heritage List.
A total of 13 objects were approved for the list. Its designers are Alvar, Aino and Elissa Aalto.
These include Finlandia Hall in Helsinki, the Aalto Campus of the University of Jyväskylä, Paimio Sanatorium, and the Sunila factory residential area in Kotka.
The Aalto Works series is Finland’s 8th UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Only particularly valuable cultural and natural sites are accepted for the list.
Eeva Kilvi’s memorial service
Now for the memorial service.
Finns have said goodbye to writer Eeva Kilve.
Eeva Kilpi died at the end of June. She was 98 years old.
The memorial service for Kilvi was open to the public and was held at the Karjala House in Helsinki.
Eeva Kilvi’s output was extensive. Her works particularly focused on the lives of women and evacuees, as well as nature conservation.
Kilpi was born in Hiitola, Karelia, which remained in the territory of present-day Russia after the war.
Hundreds of people wanted to say goodbye to writer Eeva Kilve.
This year’s dream come true

Unikeonpää has probably been celebrated in Finland since the Middle Ages.
