Coil and expensive medicines. Robot bus. Endangered plants. Weather.

Kela and expensive medicines

First, about medications.

A cancer doctor warns about Kela’s policy regarding drug reimbursement. Kela has stopped reimbursing some expensive drugs if they are administered in public healthcare.

At the same time, costs were shifted to welfare areas. The decision concerns, for example, expensive cancer drugs.

Leading Chief Physician Johanna Mattson from HUS Cancer Center says that patients can be in an unequal position between different welfare areas.

Kela has stopped reimbursing some expensive medicines. The change applies to new patients. The regions make the final purchasing decision on medicines administered in hospitals.

The decision has raised concerns, for example, among cancer organizations.

Anna Cantell-Forsbom, the head of department at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, calms concerns. The law states that in public healthcare, medicines are part of the treatment.

Robot cars

Then about automatic vehicles.

The European Union and Finland are catching up with China and the USA in the development of robotic cars.

In June, Finland joined the EU declaration, which will facilitate the testing of automated driving systems across national borders.

The tests of the robot bus near Hervanta in Tampere are now over. The bus will run without a driver.

The bus operates commercial shuttle services in Lintuhyt under remote control.

Endangered plants

Then about endangered plants.

A researcher from Tampere has made a business out of growing endangered plants. A plant is endangered when it is in danger of extinction.

Jere Nieminen’s company is one of the first in Finland to do so. It collects seeds from wild plants and grows seedlings.

They are used to strengthen endangered plants.

Nieminen’s company also grows protected plants with an exception.

Seeds and plants are used, for example, in urban restoration projects.

Weather

Still a weather forecast.

The sun is shining and it is hot in the southern and western parts of the country.

It is cloudy in the north. The temperature there is below 20 degrees.

There will be some rain in Lapland.
