The former CEO of Finnish berry company Polarica and his Thai business partner were convicted of human trafficking.

The former CEO of the berry company, Jukka Kristo, was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison. His Thai business partner, Kalyakorn “Durian” Phongphit, received a 9-month prison sentence.

The prosecutor believes the sentence was too light. The prosecutor plans to appeal the sentence. The convicted persons also plan to appeal the sentence.

Soil from plants and animals enters the open sea through rivers. This turns the water brown. Chief Jukka Seppälä from the Finnish Environment Institute:

– We have currently measured in the research vessel Aranda that the outermost part of the Baltic Sea in the Gulf of Bothnia is darkening by two to three percent per year.

Brown water is dark, and darkness affects marine life. When the water becomes dark, it is difficult for marine plants to survive.

The Baltic Sea is rapidly turning brown, warns a study.

Along with the soil, carbon also enters the sea and ends up in the atmosphere. This can increase Finland’s carbon dioxide emissions.
