College students and gap year
First, let’s talk about new university students.
Many new university graduates take a gap year after high school.
For example, last year, only about 30 percent of new university graduates continued their studies immediately after upper secondary school, according to Statistics Finland.
Almost 25 percent of new university graduates do not even apply for a study place.
Some young people may take several gap years in their studies.
Maiju Eronen, a high school graduate from Siilinjärvi this spring, plans to take the entrance exams, but is in no hurry to start studying.
– Yes, I’m going. But I don’t have a goal right now that I have to go there. That it’s okay for me to take a gap year.
Young drivers
Then the news about young drivers.
Young drivers are no longer allowed to drive at night. The ban came into effect last night.
Driving at night is prohibited for 17-year-old drivers who have received their driver’s license with an age exception permit.
The ban is intended to reduce serious traffic accidents involving young people, which have occurred especially at night.
Young drivers are not allowed to drive between midnight and 5 am.
A young driver’s car must also have an identification tag in the future. The yellow and green tag will be placed in a visible place at the back of the car.
The sign will be introduced in early October.
