Disability. Shoplifting in pharmacies. Turku tram. Weather.

Disability

First, the news about the disability.

Among unemployed job seekers, there are many people who are actually unable to work.

For example, Timo Siitonen from Lahti has been unable to work since he was in a car accident 8 years ago.

However, Kela has not granted Siitonen any sickness allowance, so he is an unemployed job seeker.

People with disabilities are congesting municipal employment services.

The city of Lahti has started an experiment in which it tries to remove disabled people from the pool of job seekers.

The doctor examines a person’s ability to work. After that, they try to get the disabled person to receive sickness benefit, rehabilitation support, or a disability pension.

Approximately 100 long-term unemployed people will participate in the experiment.

Shoplifting

Then we’ll talk about shoplifting.

Shoplifting in pharmacies has increased.

More expensive products, such as cosmetics and dietary supplements, are especially stolen from pharmacies.

What’s new is that the thieves are just ordinary people, says pharmacist Sari Kallioinen.

Shoplifting in pharmacies has increased.

That’s why many pharmacies only keep empty packages on the shelves. If you want to buy the product, you have to ask for it at the cashier.

Turku tram

Now news about tram traffic.

A tram line is being built in Turku.

The Turku City Council decided on the matter in a strict vote earlier this week.

A 12-kilometer tram line is being built. The tram route runs from the port of Turku through the city center and Kupittaa to Varissuo.

Tram service is scheduled to begin in Turku in the fall of 2033.

The implementation of the tramway still requires the state to pay part of its costs.
