Mobile phone ban in schools. New university students. Child benefit. Eurovision. Wednesday’s weather.

School cell phone ban

First, the news about the cell phone ban in schools.

Almost half of secondary schools have banned cell phones even during recess.

This is evident from a report by the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL).

Cell phones were banned completely in class last fall. Schools decide for themselves whether the ban also applies during lunch and recess.

At Linnainmaa School in Tampere, mobile phones are not allowed during recess. Students say the change is good. Now, during recess, they talk, do homework, play cards or do sports.

Half of secondary schools now operate without mobile phones.

In elementary schools, cell phones are banned in almost every school, even during recess.

New graduates

Then the topic is university students.

The results of the spring matriculation examinations have been announced.

Over 26,000 high school graduates will graduate. That is over 1,000 more than a year ago.

The best new graduate received 14 board scholarships.

The names of the new graduates can be found at yle.fi.

Child benefit

The next topic is child benefit.

Major changes are proposed to child benefit.

The government commissioned a study on how child benefit can be reformed.

The working group proposes that the child allowance will always be 100 euros per month in the future. Increases will not be paid if there are many children or if the parent is a single parent.

Major reforms are proposed to child benefit.

The decision on the change will perhaps be made by the next government.
