Hanta virus. Mäntyniemi renovation. Cows to summer pasture. Weather.

Hanta virus and evacuation

Now about hantavirus and traveling.

Passengers from a cruise ship infected with hantavirus are being evacuated from the Canary Islands. The ship arrived off Tenerife on Sunday morning.

3 passengers have died from the disease.

There were no Finns on board. However, 2 Finns were exposed to the Andes virus on the plane.

There was a sick woman on the flight who returned from the ship. The woman later died of hantavirus. Finns have no symptoms.

Cruise ship passengers are now being flown from Tenerife to their home countries.

The director-general of the World Health Organization (WHO) said that hantavirus does not spread easily.

The cruise ship arrived in Tenerife near an area where Finns also live. They have reacted calmly to the situation.

However, many hoped the ship would go elsewhere.

Finnish authorities are preparing to classify the disease caused by the Andes virus. With the classification of a generally dangerous infectious disease, those exposed to the disease can be ordered to quarantine.

Mäntyniemi renovation

Then about the building culture.

The renovation of Mäntyniemi, the president’s official residence, is now complete. Mäntyniemi is located in Meilahti, Helsinki. The renovation cost approximately 55 million euros.

The Finnish Cultural Foundation acquired almost 30 works of contemporary art for Mäntyniemi. President Alexander Stubb and his wife also wished for it.

Mäntyniemi was completed in the early 1990s. It is a complete work of art by architects Raili and Reima Pietilä. The building has, among other things, 190 doors, all of which are different.

The renovation of Mäntyniemi is now complete.

The presidential couple has been temporarily residing in the state guesthouse.

The University of Helsinki research farm has over 60 dairy cows.
