Prescription drugs. Shooting ranges. Drought. Weather.

Prescription drugs

First, news about the black market for prescription drugs.

Many prescription drugs are sold on the black market.

For example, tranquilizers, painkillers, and ADHD medications are sold illegally on social media marketplaces.

Prescription drugs end up on the street because some doctors prescribe them too easily to patients.

Prescription drugs can bring big profits on the black market.

For example, gabapentin is a medicine for epilepsy and nerve pain. It costs less than 30 euros in a pharmacy. In a street shop you can get it for maybe 1500 euros.

However, selling, distributing or donating prescription drugs is a crime that can result in fines.

Shooting ranges

Then there’s the topic of shooting ranges.

The police have found several unauthorized shooting ranges in Finland.

A nationwide inspection revealed approximately 80 shooting ranges whose permits were not in order.

The problems were most severe in Eastern and Northern Finland.

Jukka Herttel, Chief Inspector of the Finnish Firearms Administration, says that no major safety problems were found.

The current government wants to increase the number of shooting ranges and make it easier to apply for permits.

Drought

Then there is the issue of drought.

Drought is causing concern for farmers in Eastern Finland.

This is how dry the soil is in the field of the Vierula farm in Mäntyharju, South Savo.

Farmer Tiina Kohonen has to water her reed seedlings with a sprinkler. Normally, watering is not needed, as the soil is usually moist after winter.

Spring has been exceptionally dry in Eastern Finland.

There has been only a little rain.

Due to the winter with little snow, there is also less snowmelt water in the fields than usual.

Saturday weather

Still a weather forecast.

It will rain tomorrow, Saturday. The rain could be water or snow.

The wind is strong.

The day is cool. The temperature is around 0-5 degrees.
