Cutting pensions. Party support. VIntage fashion. Finnish Language Day. Weather.

Economy and pension cuts

First, about the Finnish economy and pensions.

The Ministry of Finance says that 8-11 billion euros must be saved during the next election period.

Yle asked 8 economists where the money would come from. 7 said that pensions could also be cut.

The justification is that this way there is no longer any need to cut social security, for example.

Economics professor Roope Uusitalo says that no major expense item should be left out.

Pensions are a large part of public finances. In the next election period, 8-11 billion euros must be saved.

Economists say that the pension index can be frozen, meaning the increases can be canceled. The index tracks prices and wages and calculates pensions accordingly.

Yle party support survey

The opposition party Centre Party has overtaken the Finns Party in a Yle poll. The Centre Party was in third place, with 14.5 percent support.

The governing Finns Party received 13.5 percent of the support.

The opposition SDP continues to lead, with support of around 24 percent. The ruling party, the National Coalition Party, is in second place, with support of over 17 percent.

The opposition Left Alliance increased its support to around 11 percent.

The combined support of the ruling parties was now the lowest in this election period.

VIntage clothes

Now about fashion clothes.

Flea market entrepreneurs are now bringing vintage fashion to Finland from Central Europe. There is not enough to sell in Finland.

Vintage means clothes and objects from past decades.

Outi Pyy, a sustainability influencer in the textile industry, says that importing used clothing makes sense. This way, the clothing stays in circulation.

Finnish Language Day

Today is Finnish Language Day and Mikael Agricola Day.

Agricola created the Finnish literary language. He wrote the ABCkiria, which was the first book in Finnish.

Agricola also translated the New Testament of the Bible into Finnish in his own time in 1548.
