Introducing the topic of the week

This week’s topic is the monitoring of job advertisements and new rules on the Job Market.

A large part of Finland’s job advertisements are published on the Job Market.

At the end of last year, Yle found out that many job advertisements on the Job Market were not real jobs.

Companies republished the same advertisements many times.

That’s why the number of jobs seemed larger than it actually was.

Now the authorities want to change the situation.

We will now tell you how job advertisements are going to be monitored better than before.

Excerpt from the KEHA Center document, which mentions: "KEHA Center memorandum regarding the problem areas related to job advertisements highlighted in Yle’s MOT program."

Ghost jobs

Yle interviewed Henri Rantala from Kokkola, who applied for many jobs. He discovered that not all the jobs actually existed.

One temporary employment agency also told Rantala that the job advertised did not actually exist, meaning it was a ghost job.

Many job seekers have become frustrated when they have applied for jobs that don’t actually exist and no one responds to them.

New rules

The rules of the labour market market are being revised and monitored by the KEHA Centre. It will introduce new rules and monitoring tools this year.

The same advertisement may no longer be published multiple times on the Job Market just for the sake of visibility.

In the future, temporary employment agencies must also provide more detailed information about which company they are looking for an employee for.

Authorities are developing new tools to identify and remove false job advertisements.

The new system also helps calculate the right jobs better than before.

Supervision

Minister of Labor Matias Marttinen says that the problems must be addressed quickly.

Labor authorities also say that new monitoring tools will help eliminate ghost job postings.

The goal is to provide job seekers with accurate information about jobs.

Concerns about tightening

Staffing firms and employer organizations fear that overly strict rules will make it difficult to find employees for jobs.

Many companies hope to be able to find employees in a timely manner, even if the exact need is not yet known.

In the future, employers must clearly state in the advertisement whether the work will start immediately or at a later date.

Repetition

The weekly news in plain Finnish reported on how the supervision of job advertisements on the Job Market is being tightened.

The new rules aim to ensure that job seekers are offered the right jobs and that the number of jobs is calculated correctly.
