Lots of fines for municipalities for the unemployed

The government decided last year that a municipality will have to pay a fine if there are many unemployed people in the municipality.
The government wants the municipality to provide jobs for people.
Humppila Mayor Minna Ylikännö says the fine is unfair. According to Ylikännö, it is difficult for municipalities to arrange work for people because the economic situation is bad. It is not the municipalities’ fault, says Ylikännö.
Many municipalities are in difficulty due to unemployment.
For example, the small municipality of Humppila has to pay fines of over 300,000 euros because there are many unemployed people in the municipality. The municipality has to make a lot of savings in order to pay the fines.
Hungary rejected Ukraine’s loan package

The important EU summit in Brussels ended yesterday.
The meeting was attended by Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo.
Orpo was disappointed that the meeting did not agree on a 90 billion euro loan for Ukraine.
The deal was not reached because Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán opposed it. Orbán is demanding that Ukraine first repair the oil pipeline that brings Russian oil to Hungary through Ukraine. The pipeline was damaged by Russian bombing.
The important EU summit ended yesterday.
EU leaders also condemned the war in Iran and called for the protection of civilians, saying they would prevent the mass exodus of people from war zones to the EU.
