Eastern EU defense and Finnish fighter jets

First, about European defense.

Eastern European Union countries want to intensify cooperation against the Russian threat. Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo invited the leaders of the countries to Helsinki.

Orpo said that Finland and Poland are coordinating the defense projects of the eastern EU countries.

At the same time, Finland is getting new fighter jets. Finland’s first F-35 fighter jet has been unveiled in Texas, USA. The planes will arrive in Finland in a year.

Finland decided to purchase 64 multi-role fighters from the USA in 2021. The total value of the project is approximately 10 billion euros.

Minister of Defense Antti Häkkänen was also in Texas. He said that the fighter jet solution has been successful.

Up to 900 victims in sexual crime

Now crime news.

Police in Finland are investigating a sexual crime of the kind that has never been seen before. According to Yle, the police suspect a Finnish man of abusing hundreds of boys.

Police say the suspect, a 27-year-old man, was active on the messaging app Snapchat and posed as a woman.

The man has asked children to perform various sexual acts and send the videos to him.

There are tens of thousands of individual videos and a total of almost 900 victims.

Yle reports that all are boys or young men. The police are not commenting on the gender of the victims.

Detective Inspector Hannu Kallioniemi advises children and young people: Do not trust anyone you don’t know on social media, do not send pictures.

Wolf Law

Finally, news about the hunting law.

A new law allows wolf hunting. The Parliament has approved the so-called Wolf Act by a vote of 135–35.

The wolf is no longer completely protected year-round.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry now determines how many wolves can be hunted in different areas.
