Laitila accident

First, the news of the accident.

A serious accident occurred in Laitila, Southwest Finland, on Tuesday. Two boys died in the accident. The boys were 17 years old. The accident occurred when the young people’s car fell into the water. Two young people were rescued from the car.

The police do not know why the young people’s car ended up in the water. The driver of the car was 17 years old. The driver received a driver’s license with an exemption, even though he was not yet 18 years old.

The government may change the law so that a minor cannot obtain a driver’s license as easily as now.

Student loans

The next topic is student loans.

The state must pay more for people’s student loans than before. Last year, the state paid 112 million euros in student loans.

A student can apply for a loan from a bank. The loan must be repaid when the student finishes their studies. The loan is guaranteed by the state. The state will repay the loan to the bank if the student is unable to repay the loan.

Not everyone may understand that student loans have to be repaid. Benefits Manager Piia Kuusisto from Kela:

-Somehow it seems that people don’t necessarily understand that a student loan is a loan. They don’t know how to prepare for the obligations that come with it when the time comes to start paying back the loan.

European Youth Football Championship

The European Under-21 Football Championship is being played in Slovakia. Finland is participating in the tournament. Finland’s first game is today, Thursday. Finland’s opponent in tonight’s game is the Netherlands.

Denmark and Ukraine also play in Finland’s group. The top 2 teams in the group will advance to the top 8 in the tournament.
