It’s Eurovision time again. Eurovision will be held this year in Sweden, in the city of Malmö.

Eurovision week officially starts today, Sunday. The competition days are next Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, when the final competition takes place.

Eurovision has up to 200 million viewers around the world. 100,000 visa tourists are expected in Malmö.

This time, 37 countries are participating in Eurovision. Sweden is allowed to organize this year’s contest because it won Eurovision last year.

The venue for the Eurovision Song Contest is therefore Malmö. The Swedish police do a lot of work to make Malmö safe during Eurovision.

Demonstrations are organized in Malmö during Eurovision week. Especially the war in Gaza is the reason for the protests. Many do not accept that Israel, which is waging a war in Gaza, is also participating in the Eurovision Song Contest.

The Swedish police also combats the danger of terrorism. The police say that Sweden can be a target for terrorists.

The atmosphere in Malmö is tense. A survey by a Swedish newspaper says that only 25 percent of Malmö’s residents dare to live normally during the Eurovision Song Contest. 75 percent of Malmö residents plan to avoid places where they usually move.

Finns at Eurovision

The Finns are an enthusiastic people of wisdom. Finns’ interest in Eurovision has only grown, because Käärijä was very successful last year and came second in Eurovision.

Finland has won Eurovision once. The monster band Lordi won Eurovision in 2006.

This year, Finland’s representative is Windows95man. He will perform at least on Tuesday and hopefully also make it to Saturday’s final.
