Eastern border
The situation on Finland’s eastern border has calmed down. Finland closed the border on Friday. 2 people have still entered Finland over the border. One person climbed over the fence at the Vaalimaa border station on Saturday. On Saturday, another person entered Finland across the land border in the forest, near the Vaalimaa border station. Both persons applied for asylum in Finland.
The Border Guard says that the night and Sunday day have been calm at the border.
A demonstration was organized in Lappeenranta on Sunday against the closure of the eastern border. The demonstration was mainly attended by Russians who live in Finland and dual citizens of Russia and Finland.
Visiting graves
Visiting graves is decreasing in Finland. This is what the University of Helsinki says. Older people visit graves more than young people.
The number of visits to the grave has decreased, for example, due to changes in burial methods. Cremation has become more common in Finland. A cremated deceased is not always buried in a cemetery.
Many relatives scatter the ashes, for example, in the sea or in another place that is important to them. Then also the memorial place for the deceased is often the place where the ashes are scattered and not the cemetery.
Personal tax scam messages
The police are again warning about Omavero scam messages. Self-tax is the tax administration’s online service where you can handle your own tax matters.
Fraudsters have been spreading messages that look like messages from the tax administration. The scam messages have included a link asking for a person’s online banking credentials. Actually, the message is not from the tax administration, but the message is from criminals who are trying to get people’s bank credentials.
There have been a lot of personal tax scams during the autumn. The police remind us that online banking credentials should not be entered into any links.
