Gaza fighting
The war in Gaza continues. There was a pause in the war during the truce, but the truce ended on Friday.
Israel’s military says it has carried out more than 400 strikes on Gaza since the ceasefire.
Many people have died in the attacks. Therefore, international organizations are demanding a new ceasefire in Gaza.
The battles in Gaza are between Israel and the terrorist organization Hamas.
Rovaniemi flight routes
New international flight routes will be opened from Rovaniemi. Many tourists from abroad come to Rovaniemi and the whole of Lapland every winter.
This winter, 23 direct international flight routes will fly from Rovaniemi. 12 of them are completely new flight routes.
This winter, direct flights to many major European cities will be opened from Rovaniemi. There are flights to Rovaniemi from, for example, Barcelona, Vienna, Paris, London and Berlin.
Most tourists come to Rovaniemi in December. They want to enjoy the snowy winter and see Santa Claus. Santa’s Pajakylä is in Rovaniemi.
Kaurismäki’s film
The Finnish film Koolleet lehtet is the best film of the year according to Time magazine.
The big American magazine Time made a list of the best movies of this year. Number one on the list is Dead leaves.
Dead leaves is Aki Kaurismäki’s film. Kaurismäki is a famous Finnish film director.
Dead leaves is about the love of 2 lonely people. Actors Alma Pöysti and Jussi Vatanen star in the film.
Sleep and learning
Sleep is important. Now researchers say that sleep also strengthens learning.
When a person studies something, a memory imprint is created in the brain. During sleep, the memory trace is strengthened, because the brain continues to work at night as well.
So it seems that a good night’s sleep is important when a person is studying new things.
Advent Sunday
The first Advent Sunday was celebrated on Sunday. Then the wait for Christmas begins.
The first Sunday of Advent is an important tradition for many Finns. For example, more people go to churches than on a normal Sunday.

Weather
The cold frosty weather will continue during the beginning of the week.
