Immigrants experience discrimination in Finland. This is what a study by the Institute of Health and Welfare says.

More than 40 percent of immigrants have experienced discrimination during the previous year. Immigrant men who have come to Finland from Africa or the Middle East especially experience discrimination.

Almost 8,000 immigrants participated in the study by the Institute of Health and Welfare.

Russian communication cable

The Russian communication cable has broken in the sea area of the Gulf of Finland. A Russian ship has come to repair the fault.

The cable also runs in Finland’s economic zone. Russia informed Finland about the cable breakage in mid-October.

Disease cases in dogs

Many dogs have gotten sick from dog food. The dogs got sick maybe because they ate Musti ja Mirri dog food.

Musti ja Mirri says that many hundreds of dog food buyers have contacted the company. The company has stopped the sale of more than 30,000 kilos of dog food.

The authorities are investigating the matter.

Number of babies

Fewer children are born in Finland than before. This is what the Institute of Health and Welfare says.

In 2022, approximately 45,000 children will be born in Finland. It is 9 percent less than in 2021.

Also this year, by autumn, fewer children were born than the year before.

On Monday, the day of Swedishness was celebrated. On Swedishness Day, the Swedish language is celebrated in Finland.

Almost 300,000 Finns speak Swedish as their mother tongue. Many famous Finns have been Swedish-speaking, for example Marshal Mannerheim and writer Tove Jansson.

Swedish Day has been celebrated in Finland for more than 100 years, since 1908. The day of Swedishness, or Svenska dagen, is always November 6.

Everyone can practice Swedish with, for example, Yle’s clear news in Swedish. They can be found in Areena under the name Yle Nyheter på lät svenska.

Weather

On Tuesday, the weather will be cloudy. There is fog in some parts of the country.

In the central part of the country, it rains snow, sleet and water. It’s snowing in the north.

The temperature on Tuesday will be between -2 and +7 degrees.

The weather will turn colder later this week. In Lapland, the frost gets tougher, and in the south the temperature drops below 5 degrees.
