The fighting in the Middle East is intensifying. Israel has increased many attacks on Gaza. Israel has struck 150 targets of the extremist organization Hamas.

There is no accurate information about the destruction and casualties in Gaza, because the connections to Gaza are broken.

Many aid organizations have also lost contact with aid workers in Gaza.

The UN General Assembly demands a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza. The UN General Assembly has issued a resolution on the matter. The resolution condemns violence against Palestinian and Israeli civilians.

120 countries voted in favor of the resolution. 14 states voted against. 45 states abstained, i.e. did not take a position on the issue.

For example, Finland and many other countries voted no because the UN resolution did not condemn Hamas’s attack on Israel.

The coalition has appointed Alexander Stubb as the party’s presidential candidate.

The coalition decided on the issue at an extraordinary party meeting.

The coalition had previously agreed that Stubbs would become the party’s presidential candidate. That’s why Stubb also started the election campaign earlier. Stubb’s candidacy was officially decided now.

Nonfiction Sesame Prize

Illustrator Pekka Rahkonen has won the Sesam prize for non-fiction. Rahkonen has illustrated plain language books, cartoons, textbooks and online books. The Sesam award is given for work that promotes non-fiction.

The Sesam prize is awarded by Selkokeskus’ paperback work group. The working group says that Pekka Rahkone has a good own style and high-quality illustration.

The Sesam award for non-fiction was given to Rahkonen at the Helsinki book fair. The Sesam prize is 1,000 euros.

Time shift

Daylight saving time ends tomorrow night. The time will be moved back one hour on Sunday morning at 4 o’clock.

Many people like being able to sleep an hour longer because the time is moved back an hour.

The time shift was introduced in the EU in 1981. Summer time always starts at the end of March and ends at the end of October.

Weather

The weather is quite cold.

The sun sometimes shines in the central and western parts of the country.

At night, the whole country is freezing. During the day on Sunday, the temperature will be between +1 and -5 degrees, it will be colder in places in Lapland.
